We are incredibly proud that Rochdale has been selected as a venue for the 2013 Rugby League World Cup.
Nearly 12 months hard work has been done by the Rochdale Bid Consortium partners to ensure we had the best chance possible of being selected for what will be the best ever Rugby League World Cup.
All that hard work has paid off and we now must repay the faith that has been placed with us.
We have made no secret of the fact we would like a game involving Fiji, and we will continue to lobby for that privilege. But which ever game we are allocated we will work to ensure that it is a huge success and Rochdale is shown in the best possible light and that it is something the town and the sporting community can be proud of.
We have to thank several people for the help and support with making the bid successful, none more so than Ryan Bradley the Rugby League Development Manager for Bury, Bolton and Rochdale.
It is no exaggeration to say that Ryan was one of the main driving forces making the Rochdale bid the success it is.
Also thanks must go to Colin Garlick from the Stadium Company who provided all the technical data about Spotland Stadium that the bidding committee required.
We now move onto the next stage, which ever game we are allocated we must re-double our efforts to make sure the game is a major success, with a bumper attendance.
The Rugby League World Cup falls within the so called "Golden Decade" of sport and it gives the town the chance to showcase itself to a Worldwide audience.
Also the 14 nation event gives Rugby League the chance to show the wider sporting public what it has to offer.
Rugby League in Rochdale is currently extremely vibrant at all levels from schools to junior to open age community/amateur clubs through to here at Hornets.
We hope that the 2013 Rugby League World Cup will give us the springboard to take the game forward to even higher levels.
We hope that the Rochdale public will get behind the World Cup fixture and show the World what Rochdale has to offer.
